His main areas of specialization are Plant Pathology and Plant Biotechnology. He has qualified GATE Life Science (Percentile score 99.18, All India Rank 103), CSIR-UGC NET-LS, CSIR-UGC-NET-JRF and ICAR-NET. He has received his PhD degree in accordance with UGC 2009 regulations. He has published 20 research papers in high quality journals like Biotechnology Advances, Journal of applied Microbiology, Annals of Applied Biology, Plant disease, Journal of Pest Science, Journal of plant pathology etc. He is also the recipient of Young Scientist Award by Punjab Academy of Sciences for his work entitled ‘Development of a sensitive PCR based detection method of Alternaria alternata infecting Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal, a high value medicinal plant and its possible use in quality control of herbal drugs thereof’. He has three GenBank nucleotide sequence contributions and three MTCC microbial type culture collection contributions to his credit. He has also published 2 book chapters, participated in many national and International conferences and has more than 6 years of teaching experience both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is also Co-PI in a DST-SERB funded EMR project entitled ‘Alien introgression of Yellow Vein Mossaic Virus (YVMV) resistance genes in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) through embryo rescue technique’ worth Rs. 2331132 with Dr. Puja Rattan (PI), Sanction order no EMR/2015/001859, Dated 29 September, 2016. One of his research proposal entitled ‘Transcriptome based differential gene expression analysis of salt responsive genes in salt stress treated and control horsegram seedlings’ was short listed for assistance by 2017 SGRF genomics project grant (http://www.sgrf.org/grants.php).
