Department of Commerce and Business Management Department Highlights
  • The department has faculty members who are trained from IIM’s, Indian School of Business (Hyderabad) and other top institutes and universities.

Some Workshops conducted by the department

  • Anubhav-the CBM Club of the Department of Commerce and Business Management organized an event of Business Case Challenge on 31st March 2018. Twenty teams from various departments of DAV University participated in the competition and analysed and interpreted the Facebook case and presented their views on case.
  • Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has selected Surbhi, a Junior Research Scholar in the Department of Commerce and Business Management at DAV University for Doctoral Summer School. Surbhi is working on performance and integration implications of Mergers and Acquisitions in India
  • Various students of first and second year participated in Brainstorm-2018 held at KMV college Jalandhar on 28th March 2018 and won prizes in the competitions of declamation, collage making and choreography.
  • Students of CBM department participated in the event “Be the Change” organized by Change this India Organization on 28th February 2018 held at DeshBhagatYadgar Hall, Jalandhar. Students participated enthusiastically in Declamation-Role of Youth in Indian Politics and Proposal of Best Idea- how to connect with Indian Parliament.
  • Students of CBM department from MBA and classes participated in the seminar on “Agrarian Crisis in Punjab” on 16th February 2018 at KCL Institute of Management and Technology and learned about various problems being faced by farmers of Punjab and how to deal with those problems.
  • A Two Day’s Workshop on Soft Skills “Carpediem-2K17” was organized for the students of MBA I and M. Com I, in collaboration with IIM Calcutta and Makeintern on 13th and 14th Oct 2017. Five students have been selected for attending the event at IIM Kozhikode on 2nd February 2018 to 4th February 2018.
  • A three day’s entrepreneurship boot camp program was conducted by LEDMAC Ltd. United Kingdom (UK) in collaboration with DAV University. The program included three areas: live business projects, internships and project funding etc. The facilitators were Nick Jordon (CEO of Trade Horizons, UK), Mr. SarfarazHasan (CEO of LEDMAC Ltd.), Mr. Rahul Bharadwaj (Executive director and CFO of LEDMAC Ltd.) and Mrs. Aamna Sultan (Director of learning strategy, LEMAC Ltd). 
  • A two-day workshop on soft-skills “Carpediem-2K16” was organized by the department on 21st and 22nd October, 2016. The workshop was organized in collaboration with IIM Calcutta and Makeintern in which MBA I and M. Com I year students participated and learned different skills and five students got selected to attend the event at IIM Calcutta on 29th January, 2017 to 31st January, 2017.
  • A workshop on leadership was facilitated by Major General G. G.Dwivedi. Major General G GDwivedi. The workshop focused on developing leadership skills in MBA students so that they are not only efficient managers but also leaders in their own right. 
  • One-month training in collaboration with MANPOWER (US) was organized to enhance the soft-skills of the participants. Psychological assessments to strength, weakness identification and soft-skill development were dealt with. 
  • One-month workshop on SAP B1 specialized ERP Training was organized culminating into international certification from SAP AG by the department. The focus was on building and implementing ERP. 
  • Professor Chandershekher, Director IFIM, Bangalore conducted a two-day Workshop on Business Analytics for students and teachers of department, in which he discussed the various tools for analysis of business data and business intelligence.
  • Mr Gaurav Singhal, CEO of Blue Digital Media, conducted a two-day workshop on Digital Marketing. He demonstrated the use of Facebook and Google Ad-words for designing online promotional campaign. 
  • National Workshop on “Case Based Teaching and Case Writing” was organized by the department in which faculty of department as well as other institute take part.


Some memorable guest speakers

  • A guest lecture on GST was organised on 6th Mr. R.K. Sharma (Assistant Commissioner –GST) gave his valuable insights on “Goods and Services Tax”. The speaker discussed that GST is a single tax that levied on the goods and services, right from the manufacturer to the consumer. It was highly informative session as the students gained more knowledge about GST. He also spread awareness about GST rates which are decided by the GST Council.
  • An expert lecture on “Awakening the Soul of Education through Stealth Leadership” for faculty of DAV University was organized by the department on 20th March 2018. The session was conducted by Dr.Som Saini, an internationally acclaimed trainer and consultant from Australia. He shared with the faculty members his resourceful experience in the area of employee engagement and their active involvement.
  • A guest lecture on comparison between firm and company was organized on 24th Feb 2018. M Mandeep Singh (Advocate High Court) conducted the guest lecture in which he discussed about the “Difference between the Firm and the Company”. He also talked about the benefits of starting the business as a firm and as a company.
  • .Ravinder Pal Chawla who is a hospital and healthcare management expert and professional trainer with more than 15 years of experience delivered a guest lecture on the topic of “How to have a Positive Interview Experience” on 22ndFeb2018. He emphasised on the importance of clarity and relevance while answering the questions asked by the interviewer. The speaker insisted that the candidates should be positive and well dressed in an interview. He also talked about the usage of appropriate language and voice modulation during an interview. 
  • Videocon officials Mr. Anil Kaul-Head HR Operations and Mr. AshwaniShori-HR Talent Acquisition delivered a lecture on “Telecom and Wireline Industry” the Telecom Industry on 8th Feb 2018 and focussed on the techniques used for interviews.
  • RajvirChouhan, an alumnus of IIM Calcutta delivered a lecture on “How to Crack an Interview” he focused on self-development, resume writing and body language. Students learned about the interview skill during the session.
  • Vikrant Rana from International tractors limited delivered a Guest lecture on “Corporate Laws and its Implications” on 5thMay 2017. The speaker enlightened the students on the important aspects of corporate laws and their practical significance.
  • Guest lecture by ÁcharyaShambhúshivánandaAvadhuta (Dadaji) the Chancellor of ÁnandaMárgaGurukula, Ydrefors, Sweden. He did his masters and PhD in Business and Applied Economics from the Wharton School, School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Pennsylvania. He gave a lecture on “Globalization”
  • Mr. HitenderSachdeva, Regional Head – Yes Bank and Mr. Tejinder Pal Thakur, Sr. Vice President – Cluster Business Leader gave a lecture on “Growth of Banking Sector in India”
  • Konark Bhardwaj, Circle CEO North, Reliance Communications gave a lecture on the Telecom industry in India and also the industry expectations from young managers. 
  • Himanshu Sharma, Senior HR, Ranbaxy gave a lecture on the “Pharmaceutical Industry in India”
  • Vikrant Rana, HR manager (IT), International tractors Ltd gave a lecture on Marketing and Production of Tractors in India 
  • Marko Saravanga (Director, Regenesys Foundation, South Africa) shared his ideas on “Financial Freedom” in Jan 2016 with students of Commerce and Business Management.
  • Ambassador Deepak Vohra, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Lesotho and Guinea-Bissau delivered a talk on “Global Trends in the context of Indian Economy”. 
  • AkashGautam, India’s favourite motivator and entertainer interacted with students and conducted a workshop on effective communication titled: “BindasBol” 
  • Jagdeepkataria (Head of operations, Jalandhar zone), Mr. MohitKakaria (zonal enterprise head), Mr. Amit (Marketing manager) from Videocon spoke on the demands of the industry from young managers. 
  • Dinesh Kumar is an international expert in marketing and author of many books on Consumer Behaviour, Marketing Channels etc. with most of his books being part of the curriculum in international universities in US and Europe. He gave the lecture on the contemporary issues in marketing, the theme revolved around rural India and the transformation that is taking place. The lecture dwelled into the history of marketing and its evolution. 
  • Punam Gupta being the guest speaker on 23rdNovember 2016, is an expert in communication skill development. She gave the lecture on importance of communication skills to the students of department and enhanced their knowledge.
  • SushantPalsra, Regional Marketing Head, ICICI direct Centre for Financial Learning gave a lecture on stock trading and equities.
