Pargat lauds DAV University’s efforts in promoting academics and sports

Felicitates students placed in MNCs and National-international medalists

Jalandhar, October 23                                 

Laying emphasis on drawing a fresh road map of the education and sports policies in the state, the Punjab cabinet minister Pargat Singh said that both sectors were integral and required revitalization. Mr Pargat Singh was speaking at a function convened by DAV University to felicitate students placed in MNCs and national and international sports medalists produced by the university. The Punjab Higher Education, School Education, Sports & Youth Services, NRI Affairs, Mr Pargat Singh, said that DAV University had played a major role in the uplifting sports and maintaining the standard of education.

The minister and former hockey captain was received on the campus by the dignitaries of the University on behalf of Dr Punam Suri, Chancellor of the University. These university officials included the Vice Chancellor Dr Jasbir Rishi, Executive Director Mr Rajan Gupta, Registrar DR K N Kaul, Dean Academics Dr R K Seth and Deputy Director Sports, Dr Yeshbeer Singh.

While interacting with the University authorities, Mr Pargat Singh said that he was delighted to learn DAV University was giving due consideration to requirements of the industry while preparing curricula. “This paves pay to their better placements,” the minister observed.

He said that he proposed to invest heavily in human resource and infrastructure in education sector. Emphasizing on the need to make youth healthy and strong, Mr Pargat Singh said that girls should have access to nutritional food and facilities.

Displaying a true sportsmanship, he headed straight to the University playground and witnessed an ongoing cricket match. He also interacted with the players and the faculty of the sports department.

The following students of the University were honoured by the minister:

Judo: Sanyogita Singh (silver medalist, commonwealth championship-2018; gold medalist, Khelo India-2018, bronze medalist, cadet and junior national-2019); Prachi Panwar (SGFI national bronze medalist-2018-19); Yeshvir Singh (Common Wealth championship silver 2018, Khelo India Gold 2019); Vikram Singh (Khelo India Silver Medal 2019).

Equestrian: Akash (gold medalist, Junior National Equestrian Championship 2020-2021 and gold medalist in Junior National Equestrian Championship 2019-2020)

Taekwondo: Syed Taha (Olympic ranked international taekwondo player 2019); Tamanna Dhiman (open international participation in taekwondo 2019, Black Dan 1 holder, 2021 grand finale talent show taekwondo winner)

Power Lifting: Roshni (National gold 2021); Aadesh (National Silver 2019; Rohit (National bronze 2019); Akshay (National bronze 2019)

Kho-Kho: Navin Kumar (National gold 2019); Arun (National bronze medal 2019

Happy (Junior National gold 2015 Gujarat, All India University gold 2015 Orissa, All India University silver 2014 GNDU, Junior National gold 2012); Harpreet Kaur (third in Junior Asian Championship, Hong Kong 2014, participation in World University South Korea 2015
