April 02, 2018

Anubhav-the CBM Club of the Department of Commerce and Business Management organized an event of Business Case Challenge on 31st March 2018. Twenty teams from various departments of DAV University participated in the competition.

Various teams of three students each analysed and presented a live case on Facebook. In the live case format, students are given limited time to search information available in the public domain including internet and other media. One of world’s most famous  social networking site, Facebook, is facing  regulatory scrutiny from regulators and political parties of different countries after Cambridge Analytica revealed about the unauthorized use of user data on FB. As part of the challenge, the teams were required to identify the implications of this and suggest how the Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, should handle this situation?

The participants came out with threadbare analysis of the case and presented their suggestions for the stakeholders. Most of the presenters held users equally responsible for misuse of their personal data as they do not bother to change their privacy settings on Facebook and other social media sites. They agreed that new age digital media needs to be understood by one and all and suggested that courses should be introduced to spread awareness about the intricacies of social media in general.

The first prize was won by the team of BCA, Department of Computer Application, the team of BA(Hons) English won the second prize and MBA team stood third in the competition.

Dr. Sushma Arya, the registrar of DAV University, congratulated the winners and distributed prizes and certificates. She also appreciated the students for their excellent analytical and presentation skills. Dr. R.K. Mahajan, the Vice Chancellor of the university, also congratulated the Department of Commerce and Business Management for organizing the Business Case Challenge with a contemporary theme and encouraged them to keep the students updated with these kind of events.
