November 17, 2023

Jalandhar, November 17

Department of Commerce, Business Management and Economics (CBME) organized a hands-on training workshop on accounting software Tally. Chartered Accountant Pardeep Makkar was the head trainer of the session who provided students with practical insights into different aspects of Tally's functionality.

The workshop covered a comprehensive range of topics, including the basics of maintaining charts of accounts in Tally. Participants delved into company creation, charts of accounts, ledger and group creation, and the intricacies of multi-group creation. Emphasis was placed on essential tasks such as maintaining stock-keeping units, creating inventory, stock groups, units of measure, and generating reports. Additionally, attendees were guided through the creation of godowns and various voucher types, including receipt vouchers, sales vouchers, and credit and debit note vouchers.

Pardeep Makkar shed light on vital aspects of day-to-day transaction recording using Tally. Students received valuable insights into accounts receivables and payable management within the software, including maintaining bill-wise details, new references, advances, stock category reports, and changing financial years.

Practical exercises included navigating MIS reports in Tally, trial balance, cash flow analysis, day book, sales and purchase registers, bills receivables and payable, ratio analysis, and bills receivable and payable. After each session, key takeaways were discussed to reinforce the learning experience.

The workshop also dedicated substantial time to elucidate the fundamentals of Goods and Service Tax (GST). Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Associate Professor, CBME, and Mr Siddarth Sharma, Assistant Professor, CBME, played pivotal roles in organizing the event.

Dr Gitika Nagrath, Dean, CBME Department, Dr Girish Taneja, Coordinator of the CBME Department, and other faculty members congratulated the students on their participation. As a culmination of the training, students underwent an examination conducted by Tally Academy and successfully obtained Tally certification.
