A webinar on ‘Nutrition profile of millets and their possible role in reducing double burden of malnutrition’ was organized by The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, DAV University Jalandhar on 15th Jan, 2021 at 12:00 noon as the second one of a two webinar series. The resource person, Prof. Paras Sharma (Senior Scientist, ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad) explained about the malnutrition and the growing concern about the double burden of malnutrition in India. At the start of the lecture, Dr. Ashutosh Sharma introduced the speaker. Dr. Paras Sharma emphasized upon the nutrition security for every human being as the next phase of concern after food security. He added that the millets have the potential to ensure nutritional security. He explained that millets are better than the conventional cereals in terms of many nutritional attributes. He further discussed the management of anti-nutrients in cereals. He discussed millets as functional foods and also described the challenges and opportunities in commercialization of value-added products derived from them. At last, he invited the faculty of Agricultural Sciences, DAV University to plant some collaborative work to contribute into the nation’s nutritional security. At the end, Dr. Anju Pathania, Coordinator, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences extended a formal vote of thanks on the behalf of DAV University.
