Dr Ravish Chatrath is an eminent wheat breeder having an experience of more than 34 years in Indian Council of Agricultural Research. He has worked at Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Jodhpur, Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal and Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley research, Karnal. He has developed 18 wheat varieties including India’s first biofortified wheat WB 2 having high zinc content and more than 25 genetic stocks. His area of research were development of high yielding and disease resistant wheat varieties for high productive zone of the country. He has also worked on the characterization of Australian and Indian lines for root and shoot traits for development of wheat varieties with high water use efficiency; molecular markers used to combine Australian and Indian rust resistant genes for developing rust resistant wheat; research on protocols for salt stress screening and its genetics; evaluation and breeding for resource conservation technologies. His publications have 1479 citations; h-index of 14 and i10-index of 24 on Google Scholar. He has a wide international experience having visited 15 countries including 4 months’ research attachment at the prestigious John Innes Centre, UK and led five international and many national research projects. He is the recipient of several awards including the International Gene Steward Award by Borlaug Global Rust Initiative. Elected Fellow of the prestigious National Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Participated in several national and international conferences and symposiums.
