Department of Commerce and Business Management Events


  • Workshop on Entrepreneurship and Soft Skills (October, 2018): The Department of Commerce and Business Management organized a two-day workshop on “Entrepreneurship and Soft Skills” on 4th-5thOctober, 2018. The workshop was organized in collaboration with IIM Indore and Makeintern for i5Summit event. Ms. Shalini Vij, certified trainer from IIM Indore and the Founder and Director of Sculpting Mentors, was the facilitator for the event.
  • Workshop on Soft Skills “Carpediem-2K17” (October, 2017): The Department of Commerce and Business Management organized a two-day workshop on “Soft Skills” on 13th-14th October, 2017 for the students of MBA and M. Com, in collaboration with IIM Calcutta and Makeintern. Mr. Kartik Mehta, certified trainer from Makeintern took the session and five students were selected for attending the event at IIM Kozhikode on 2nd -4th February, 2018.
  • Workshop on Advanced Excel, R and Hadoop (February,2017): A two days’ Workshop on Advanced Excel, R and Hadoop was organized by the Department of Commerce and Business Management on 10th -11th February, 2017 with Dr. Sahil Raj as the resource person. He is having experience of more than thirteen years in teaching, specializes in the areas of Artificial Neural Networks, Decision Tress, Fuzzy Logic, Business Analytics, Big Data Analytics and Strategic Information Systems. Some of the topics covered in the workshop were Hadoop, predictive analytics, twitter analysis, market basket analysis, structured and unstructured data, data profiling and Advanced Excel.
  • Workshop on Soft-Skills “Carpediem-2K16” (October, 2016): The Department of Commerce and Business Management organized a two-day workshop on “Soft Skills” on 21st -22nd October, 2017. The workshop was organized in collaboration with IIM Calcutta and Makeintern in which MBA and M. Com students participated. Ms. Suprita, having more than 10 years of professional experience in the area of soft-skills was the certified trainer and five students got selected to attend the event at IIM Calcutta on 29th-31stJanuary, 2017.
  • Workshop on leadership (November, 2016): The workshop was facilitated by Major General G. G. Dwivedi. An alumnus of National Defence College. Prof. Dwivedi, has been the faculty of Indian Military Academy Dehradun and Defence Services Staff College Wellington. The workshop focused on developing leadership skills in MBA students. The speaker also dwelt on the nuances of military leadership and emotional intelligence.
  • Entrepreneurship boot camp program collaboration with LEDMAC Ltd. United Kingdom (August, 2016): The program included three areas: live business projects, internships and project funding etc. The facilitators of LEDMAC were Mr. Sarfaraz Hasan (CEO of LEDMAC Ltd.), Mr. Rahul Bharadwaj (Executive director and CFO of LEDMAC Ltd.) and Mrs. Aamna Sultan (Director of learning strategy, LEDMAC Ltd).
  • Workshop on Digital Marketing (April 2015): Anubhav- The CBM Club of the Department of Commerce and Business Management organized workshop on digital Marketing on 11th -12th April, 2015. Mr. Gaurav Singhal, CEO, Blue Digital, demonstrated the use of Facebook and Google Ad-word for designing promotional campaign.
  • Workshop on Business Analytics (March, 2015): The department of Commerce and Business Management organized a workshop on Business Analytics for the Students and teachers of the department. University Professor Dr. Chandershekher Subramanyam, an IT specialist who has served at IIM Lucknow, Fore School of Management and is currently the Director of Business Analytics Centre at IFIM Business School, Bangalore was the facilitator and he impart knowledge on various tools for analysis of business data and business intelligence.
  • One-month training in collaboration with MANPOWER (US) was organized to enhance the soft-skills of the participants. Psychological assessments to strength, weakness identification and soft-skill development were dealt with. 
  • One-month workshop on SAP B1 specialized ERP Training was organized culminating into international certification from SAP AG by the department. The focus was on building and implementing ERP. 
  • Workshop on Aptitude & Skill Development (August, 2019): The Department of Commerce and Business Management organized “Aptitude and Skill Development Workshop” on 22nd and 23rd August, 2019. The students of undergraduate classes participated in the workshop and gained insight into ways to develop their aptitude and communicative skills. Mr. Rajvir Singh Chohan, Centre Head of Asia’s leading education service provider, Career Launcher, with a corporate experience of over 19 years, informed the students how to improve their aptitude for data analysis/ interpretations. He provided the students insights into the various tips they can use for clearing the entrance exams after their graduation.



  • Young Achiever Awards for Excellence (April, 2019): Anubhav- The CBM Club organized “Young Achiever Awards for Excellence” in association with JMA on 24th April, 2019. Mr. Vinod K Pandita (a noted management consultant), Mr. Ahsan-ul-Haq, President, Jalandhar Management Association (JMA) and Mr. Vishal Sharma, Secretary-General of JMA graced the occasion with their presence. Vinod Pandita, delivered an Ed Talk on Entrepreneurship, Start Ups and Building Careers in the Age of Disruption. He also shared ABCD rule of success with the students. Further, ten students were honoured with the Young Achievers Award for Excellence in their respective fields.
  • The Open Mic Show (April, 2019): The Open Mic Show was organized by Anubhav Club of CBM Department. Poetry, Singing, Comedy, Rapping was the events under this show. The show was inaugurated by Dr. Sushma Arya, Registrar, DAV University and Dr. Jasbir Rishi, Dean Student Welfare, DAV University. There were 19 participants who came from different institutes like DAV College, APJ College, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, etc. Amandeep Kaur opened the show with her very interesting poetry and then event caught its pace. Rinku (participant of Voice of India) added more value to the show with his singing. All the participants possess excellent skill-set related to their respective fields.
  • Business Case Challenge (February, 2019): Anubhav - The CBM Club organized "Business Case Challenge-2019" on 23rd February, 2019. Thirteen teams of three students each from different departments of the university participated in this event. The participants were required to analyse a Live Case, identify the reasons of the problem and give suggestions to media mogul and Rajya Sabha member Subhas Chandra who recently admitted making some wrong investment decisions leading to the present situation where he has been forced to sell – Zee Entertainment – the crown jewel of his media empire.
  • Business Case Challenge (March, 2018): Anubhav-The CBM Club of the Department of Commerce and Business Management organized an event “Business Case Challenge” on 31st March 2018. Twenty teams from various departments of DAV University participated in the competition and analysed and interpreted the Facebook case and presented their views on case.
  • Discussion on Budget (March, 2016): Anubhav-The CBM Club of the Department of Commerce and Business Management invited Mr. Shrish Mudgal (Regional Head, Marketing Development, Business Standard) for the discussion on the Union Budget 2016.
  • Management Film Festival (Feb, 2015): Anubhav- The CBM Club organized management film festival in association with Jalandhar Management Association (JMA). President and secretary of JMA showed clippings of various movies and discussed the learning aspects and their implication in business management.
  • Ad Designing Contest (Nov, 2015): Anubhav-the CBM Club organized Ad-Designing Contest and 15 teams of various departments participated in this event. Mr Parminder Singh, MD, Nextcare, India graced this event as the chief guest.
  • DAV University Organizes Business Simulation Competition during Global Entrepreneurship Week (November, 2015): To celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, Anubhav – the CBM Club, DAV University partnered with GoVenture to organize Business Simulation Competition during 19th-21st November, 2015. The contest was held to unlock the entrepreneurial potential of the young students by providing them an opportunity to run their own business in a virtual world. During the event, seventy-nine students from various departments of the university registered and participated in the two competitions on business simulation, one using GoVenture Lemonade Stand and the other one using GoVenture Micro Business platform.


Guest Lectures

  • Guest Lecture in Collaboration with NSDL and SEBI (February, 2019): The seminar was in collaboration with NSDL (National Securities Depository Limited) and SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India). Mr. Ankit Sharma, Technical Expert at NSDL, spoke on various investment strategies that can be used by people, including long term investments. He also guided the students on how to open and operate a Demat account and start with small scale investments. The second speaker, Mr. Zubin Mehta, AGM at SEBI, gave an engrossing talk on the value of long term investment that must be based on appropriate knowledge of the market and risks involved in it.
  • Aptitude Session by Aptiguide (February, 2019). The aptitude session was held on February 11, 2019 for the students of BBA and B. Com. The session was conducted by ‘Aptiguide’. The speaker suggested the importance of increasing the aptitude of the students. Certain numerical problems were given to the students and the students solved those problems. At the end, certain tricks were discussed through which the problems can be solved in less time.
  • Guest Lecture by Career Launcher (February, 2019) A lecture on GD, PI and Aptitude was organised by department of Commerce and Business Management with the help of ‘Career Launcher’ on February 5, 2019. The workshop was attended by the students of BBA and B.Com. The experts from the team of the Career Launcher guided students on the various entrance exams.
  • Guest Lecture regarding SAP (January, 2019). A guest lecture on SAP was conducted on 30th January, 2019. The speaker discussed about the advantages of usage of SAP. The importance of Enterprise Resource Planning for the organisation was discussed.
  • Guest Lecture on Stealth Leadership (January,2019). A guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Som Saini on Stealth leadership on 22nd January, 2019 in the Department of Commerce and Business Management of DAV University. He is the managing partner at Awakened Stealth leadership LLP and the author of the book “Awakened Stealth Leadership”. In his lecture, he emphasized on the importance of positive attitude and adequate knowledge of subject for the students looking for placements.
  • Lecture on “Global Vision” (October, 2018): An expert lecture was delivered on “Global Vision” for the students of MBA and M. Com. The session was conducted by Mr. Karanvir Singh, the Global Entrepreneur and the Chairman of Visionum Group.
  • Lecture on International collaboration and Employment Opportunity (April, 2018): Mr. Peter Krikstolaitis, CEO of Bravo consultancy firm and Mr. Chetan Verma, CEO Bravo Consultancy India delivered the guest lecture on International Collaboration and Employment Opportunity. The students were provided guidance on career development and career management solution.
  • Expert Lecture on Employee Engagement (March, 2018): Lecture was delivered by Dr. Som Saini, an internationally acclaimed trainer and consultant from Australia on “Awakening the Soul of Education through Stealth Leadership”. He shared with the faculty members his resourceful experience in the area of employee engagement and their active involvement.
  • Lecture on Comparison between Firm and the Company (February, 2018): Mr. Mandeep Singh (Advocate High Court) conducted the guest lecture in which he discussed about the “Difference between the Firm and the Company”. He also talked about the benefits of starting the business as a firm and as a company.
  • Expert Lecture on Positive Interview Experience (February, 2018): Mr. Ravinder Pal Chawla who is a hospital and healthcare management expert and professional trainer with more than 15 years of experience delivered a guest lecture on the topic of “How to have a Positive Interview Experience”. He emphasised on the importance of clarity and relevance while answering the questions asked by the interviewer. The speaker insisted that the candidates should be positive and well dressed in an interview. He also talked about the usage of appropriate language and voice modulation during an interview. 
  • Lecture on Interview Skills (February, 2018): Videocon officials Mr. Anil Kaul, Head HR Operations and Mr. Ashwani Shori, HR Talent Acquisition delivered a lecture on“Telecom and Wireline Industry” and also focussed on the techniques used for interviews.
  • Lecture on “How to crack an Interview” (January, 2018): Mr. Rajvir Chouhan, an alumnus of IIM Calcutta delivered a lecture on “How to Crack an Interview” and focused on self-development, resume writing and body language. Students learned about the interview skill during the session.
  • Guest Lecture on Corporate Laws and its Implications (May, 2017): Mr. Vikrant Rana from International tractors limited delivered a Guest lecture on “Corporate Laws and its Implications”. The speaker enlightened the students on the important aspects of corporate laws and their practical significance.
  • Lecture on “GST- Its impact on Indian Economy” (Feb,2017): CA Puneet Oberoi stated that the main purpose of the guest lecture was to aware the students about the key issues related with GST as well as its impact on business as well service sector.
  • Expert session on Communication skills (November, 2016): Dr. Punam Gupta is an expert in communication skill development. She delivered a lecture on the importance of communication skills and highlighted correct resume building techniques and highlighted the current formats being used by the corporates to filter resume based on skills.
  • Expert session on Marketing (November, 2016): Dinesh Kumar conducted a guest lecture on marketing. Dr. Dinesh Kumar is an international expert in marketing and author of many books on Consumer Behaviour, Marketing Channels etc. with most of his books being the part of the curriculum in international universities in US and Europe.
  • Videocon campus connect program (November,2016): The senior management team from Videocon who graced the occasion, included Mr. Jagdeep Kataria (Head of operations, Jalandhar zone), Mr. Mohit Kakaria (Zonal Enterprise Head), Mr. Amit (Marketing Manager). The campus connect lecture was delivered by Mr. Jagdeep Kataria, having an experience of more than 20 years in the field of telecom spoke on the demands of the industry from young managers. 
  • Guest Lecture on “Global Trends in the context to Indian Economy” (March 2016): Ambassador Deepak Vohra, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Lesotho and Guinea-Bissau shared his vast experience of negotiating the deals in the national and international situations. He shared that trust is based upon reliability, responsiveness and reasonability. He also highlighted the importance of understanding the context and culture of the opponents in the negotiation. He guided the students that appearance, behaviour and eye contact are very important for a formal meeting or presentation during the negotiation.
  • Guest lecture (January, 2016): Ácharya Shambhúshivánanda Avadhuta, Chancellor of Ánanda Márga Gurukula in Ydrefors, Sweden delivered a special lecture for the students of Commerce and Business Management Department. Ácharya Shambhúshivánanda – who is also known as Dadaji – started his lecture with highlighting the importance of life and ways to manage it. He discussed ancient knowledge has its own importance and the youth must rely on it while seeking answers to complex issues of personal and professional life.
  • Guest Lecture on Financial Freedom (January, 2016): Dr. Marko Saravanga Director, Regenesys Foundation, South Africa, shared his idea on financial freedom with the students of Commerce and Business Management. Dr Marko underlined the importance of big dreams, big thinking and freedom from fear for gaining financial freedom. Drawing lessons from his personal experiences, he shared that authenticity unleashes the power within and suggested that when you give unconditionally, you receive abundantly. He talked about power of emotional and spiritual intelligence in gaining financial freedom.
  • Guest Lecture on Global Mega Trends (Aug 2015): Deepak Vohra, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Lesotho and Guinea-Bissau discussed that India is acquiring new assertiveness amid emerging political, economic, social and attitudinal megatrends in a fast shaping world order. During a lecture on Global Megatrends Viewed in Indian Context, he said that India was set to play a pivotal role in international arena. The programme was organized by Anubhav – The CBM Club of the department.
  • Lecture on Motivation (May, 2015): Akash Gautam, India’s favourite motivator and entertainer interacted with students and conducted a workshop on effective communication titled: “BindasBol”. A Motivational Workshop to enhance the communication skills of students was organised by Anubhav-The CBM Club of Department of Commerce and Business Management, He connected with the students in his unique sarcastic and humorous way. He shared thirteen tips for personality development and communication effectiveness. He stressed the need for smiling while talking, listening patiently and stabilizing the mind. He emphasised on doing more and talking less.
  • Guest lecture on “Create a Spark” (April, 2015): Noted management consultant and motivational speaker, Mr. A. K. Goswami, called upon students to keep their spirits high if they aimed at achieving success in life. Mr. Goswami, who delivered a lecture titled “Create a Spark” to MBA students. He highlighted how hard work and faith together lead to success in life. He said that students must maintain “spark” in all their endeavours if they want to achieve goals in life.
  • Seminar on Marketing Ayurvedic Products (August, 2014): Dayanand Ayurvedic College (DAC) hosted a seminar on Marketing of Ayurvedic Products for the students pursuing MBA and M Com. The seminar focused on the efficacy, reliability and need for promoting Ayurvedic medicines and food items. Prof Raj Kumar, principal, Dayanand Ayurvedic College (DAC) held a presentation and demonstrated how different defined body types according to the system of Ayurveda would require specific food items. Prof Raj Kumar apprised the students that human beings should depend largely on natural food items. Processed and junk food adversely impact balance of human body.
  • A guest lecture on GST was delivered by Mr. R.K. Sharma (Assistant Commissioner –GST) gave his valuable insights on “Goods and Services Tax”. The speaker discussed that GST is a single tax that levied on the goods and services, right from the manufacturer to the consumer. It was highly informative session as the students gained more knowledge about GST. He also spread awareness about GST rates that are decided by the GST Council.
  • Lecture on Growth of Banking Sector in India was delivered by Mr. Hitender Sachdeva, Regional Head – Yes Bank and Mr. Tejinder Pal Thakur, Sr. Vice President – Cluster Business Leader.
  • Lecture on Telecom Industry in India was delivered by Konark Bhardwaj, Circle CEO North, Reliance Communications and he also discussed the industry expectations from young managers with the students of MBA and M.Com. 
  • Himanshu Sharma, Senior HR, Ranbaxy gave a lecture on the “Pharmaceutical Industry in India”. 
  • Vikrant Rana, HR manager (IT), International tractors Ltd gave a lecture on Marketing and Production of Tractors in India 
  • SushantPalsra, Regional Marketing Head, ICICI direct Centre for Financial Learning gave a lecture on stock trading and equities.
  • Various students of B.com first and second year participated in Brainstorm-2018 held at KMV college Jalandhar on 28thMarch 2018 and won prizes in the competitions of declamation, collage making and choreography.
  • Students of CBM department participated in the event “Be the Change” organized by Change this India Organization on 28thFebruary 2018 held at DeshBhagatYadgar Hall, Jalandhar. Students participated enthusiastically in Declamation-Role of Youth in Indian Politics and Proposal of Best Idea- how to connect with Indian Parliament.
  • Students of CBM department from MBA and M.com classes participated in the seminar on “Agrarian Crisis in Punjab” on 16th February 2018 at KCL Institute of Management and Technology and learned about various problems being faced by farmers of Punjab and how to deal with those problems.
  • Guest Lecture by ITC (August, 2019): A lecture was delivered by senior officials of the ITC company Mrs. Charu and Mr. Ashwani Kumar Kashyap and they interacted with the students and explained the importance of communication and how new technologies were commanding the consumer markets. Mr. Ashwani highlighted that communication played an important role in daily activities and was impacting the purchasing behaviour of the consumers. He deliberated upon the value of communication in strengthening the team spirit in the organizations.
